Fáilte (Welcome) to the
Clifford-Hoban Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann!
Santa Cruz/Monterey, CA
Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (pronounced "coal-tus kyol-tory air-un") is
an international organization dedicated to the advancement of traditional
Irish music, language, dance, and culture. Translation from the Irish
(Gaelic) name is roughly "A Gathering of Irish Musicians."
The organization (often called CCE) was founded in Ireland in 1951, at
a time when Irish music and other traditions were in danger
of being ignored. Since then, thousands of people in CCE have helped to
propagate and invigorate traditional Irish culture. CCE has no political
or religious agenda, and you do not have to be Irish to participate.
The Clifford-Hoban branch of CCE existed for about ten years
and phased out in 2009. Please see the "CCE links" page to connect
with other CCE chapters. Former members of Clifford-Hoban still produce
some Irish-themed events for the public. Visit our "ceilis" and "resources"
pages for more information!
