Course of Italian for Beginning Students

Textbook E. Lebano – Italian : A self teaching guide (2nd edition)

This course is designed for the first time student of
Italian. Each class provides a balance of structured
language lessons, insight into cultural themes, as
well as the opportunity to converse in Italian.
Students will acquire basic grammar, pronunciation and
simple vocabulary, and learn basic grammatical and
lexical structures. Upon completion, the student is
able to satisfy elementary needs of communication.
It is also a great class for those traveling to
Italy!!

Instructor: Irene Bargetto
This conversation course is recommended for students
who have a good grasp of the Italian language.
Idiomatic expressions, specific vocabulary, and
revisions of grammatical points are used to improve
speaking skills and fluency. There will be various
topics for discussion including articles from Italian
magazines and readings from Italian literature.
About the instructors
MARIA ROSSI was born and raised in Montreal, Canada
and is the daughter of Italian parents, immigrants
from Abruzzo. She grew up immersed in the Italian
culture, speaking Italian at home, English in the
classroom and French on the playground. She received
her B.A. in Linguistics and Italian Studies at the
University of Toronto, as well as her B.Ed.and
Teaching Certification. Maria has been living in
Scotts Valley for the past 12 years with her husband
and two daughters, and enjoys playing tennis, cooking,
traveling, and the cinema.
IRENE CHISSOTTI BARGETTO was born and raised in
Chieri, Piemonte, Italy, where she graduated with a
degree in Accounting. Before she moved to the United
States, she traveled to many regions in Italy and
various European countries. Irene returns to Italy
every year for a few weeks to visit her family and to
keep well connected to her Italian heritage. Her
passion for foreign languages brought her to
California. She also speaks French and Spanish. Over
the years, Irene has enjoyed tutoring family members
and friends in Italian. She is currently the Business
Manager for Santa Cruz Ear, Nose and Throat and
Physicians’ Hearing Aid Center in Santa Cruz and also
helps with her husband’s business, Soquel Vineyards.
